It’s an age-old debate for Queenslanders: Gold Coast versus Sunshine Coast. Both are equally as beautiful in their own right, boasting pristine beaches, idyllic year-round weather and all-ages activities for families, singles and couples. For those contemplating moving house to Gold Coast or moving to Sunshine Coast, here’s a quick comparison to help prospective residents decide which coast is most suited to their lifestyle and needs:

Sunshine Coast:
Sunshine coast is the ninth largest metropolis in Australia. While moving to Sunshine Coast features in many Baby Boomers’ retirement plans, the Sunshine Coast is also home to Australia Zoo and Underwater World, so there’s plenty to do for the kids too. As for beaches, it’s hard to compete with Noosa’s white sand and boutique shopping, Mooloolaba’s alfresco dining, and Australia’s tidiest town, Caloundra. Scattered throughout these are a string of off-leash beaches for man’s best friend, and a variety of surf-friendly waves appropriate for all levels. For sporting fans, there’s not much happening in the way of national teams, with the closest AFL or NRL teams residing up the road in Brisbane. If produce markets and handmade stalls are more your pace, you’ll find plenty of that on the Sunshine Coast.

Gold Coast:
Gold Coast is the sixth most populous Australian city, famed for its nightlife and crowned the Las Vegas of Australia. As such, entertainment and dining options are usually open later than on the Sunshine Coast. With Sea World, Movie World, Dream World, Wet’n’Wild and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary at its doorstep, there’s plenty on offer for the little ones as well. For nature-orientated residents, Gold Coast Hinterland provides an easy escape from the hustle and bustle of town and notorious traffic congestion. For anybody moving house to Gold Coast, it’s best to take your own car, as reliable public transport is still in the making. If sport has a hand in your decision, Gold Coast is home to an AFL team (Gold Coast Suns) and a national Rugby League team (Gold Coast Titans).

It’s as hard to compare the two on paper as it is lying beach side at either of Queensland’s most iconic coastal spots. In making your decision, perhaps consider job prospects and proximity to friends and family.
